Hi, I’m Tamara, and I’m Jynessa, and we’re here with our friends at Well.ca to share some of our favourite products from The Ordinary.

The Ordinary offers a broad range of effective skincare technologies at honest prices. Each product is formulated with one or two active ingredients to target specific skin concerns, allowing you to build a routine tailored to your needs.

Let’s get started.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is a potent antioxidant that helps improve the appearance of uneven skin tone and visible signs of aging. When vitamin C oxidizes, it may change colour, indicating reduced effectiveness.

The Ordinary offers both pure vitamin C and stable derivatives.

First, Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2%. This water-free, silicone-free formula delivers direct exposure to pure vitamin C at a high concentration. Because it is a suspension, it may take a few seconds to absorb, and a tingling sensation can occur as your skin builds tolerance.

Next, Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate Solution 20% in Vitamin F. This oil-soluble vitamin C derivative is highly stable and gentle, with minimal stinging. Apply after water-based serums.

Then, Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12%. This water-soluble derivative offers a lightweight, fast-absorbing option with low irritation. Apply before oils and creams.

Finally, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate 10%. This gentle, water-based cream provides hydration with minimal irritation and should be applied after serums and before makeup.

For experienced users seeking stronger results, Vitamin C Suspension 23% is ideal. For beginners or those with sensitive skin, start with a derivative such as Ascorbyl Glucoside 12% or Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate 10%.

Vitamin A (Retinoids)

Vitamin A derivatives help support cell turnover and improve the appearance of texture and signs of aging.

Retinol is the most well-known form. Here we have Retinol 1% in Squalane, a stable, water-free formula. When starting retinol, it’s important to use a small amount every other night, as an initial adjustment period may occur.

For a gentler option, Advanced Retinoid 2% uses next-generation retinoid technology to deliver similar visible results with less irritation. Apply two to three drops to the face at night.

When using retinoids, always apply SPF during the day, as skin can become more sensitive to UV exposure.

Hydration

Balanced hydration is essential for healthy-looking skin. Even oily skin can experience dehydration.

Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 attracts moisture and can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water. This formula contains multiple molecular weights of hyaluronic acid for multi-depth hydration, along with vitamin B5 for added surface hydration. Apply before heavier products.

100% Plant-Derived Squalane is a lightweight oil that mimics the skin’s natural lipids. Derived from plant sources such as sugar cane and beets, it provides surface hydration with a non-greasy finish. Apply after water-based serums.

Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA supports the skin barrier with components naturally found in the skin. This non-greasy cream should be used as the final step in your routine.

How to Choose

For oily but dehydrated skin, use Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5.

For drier skin, layer Hyaluronic Acid 2% followed by 100% Plant-Derived Squalane.

All skin types can benefit from Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA as a finishing step.

We hope this helps you find the right products from The Ordinary for your skincare routine.
